Our journey began when entrepreneur Russ Rooney, a hands-on inventor from Richfield, Minnesota, set out to replicate the plaintive, romantic call of the common loon—a sound deeply embedded in Minnesotan tradition.

What started as a simple experiment in his basement evolved into a full-scale family business. Working on an idea originally sparked by an old toy from a garage sale, the Rooney family refined and perfected the design. By carefully drilling and adjusting the size and placement of holes in a hollow spinning disc, they crafted a device that faithfully reproduced the distinct calls of loons. As demand for the innovative Loontoon grew, production expanded from their home workshop to include advanced injection molding at a plastics factory and detailed assembly work, even involving skilled teams from unique facilities.

Today, LoonTune continues to deliver the authentic sounds of nature in a playful yet inventive way.
